OWLS HEAD, ME – I was in the bow of Micah Philbrook’s sweet little Holland 14 with my camera, Micah’s sternman Garet Adolphsen at the tiller back aft.

Micah was jogging away from us with his new 49’11”x19’2” Claire Elizabeth, preparing to make his first pass for some photos.  From the stern quarter, the Claire Elizabeth shows her length off well, with a graceful sheerline encompassing a work deck that looks like it could accommodate a half-court basketball game.

I was about to ask Garet about all that extra room when the Claire Elizabeth pivoted around and began running back towards us.

“Wow – that’s quite a view,” Garet said, angling us to keep the sun at my back.  I realized that he’d probably been aboard of the Claire Elizabeth for what hours had been clocked on her D16 Volvo so
far … getting to see her run was a treat for him.

Me too.

Eyeing her up through the viewfinder, the Claire Elizabeth’s pedigree was obvious.  No matter how much her hind end had been …
