Neil Sims’ bold new experiment in Hawaii “Free range” open ocean cultured fish? Maybe so, if Neil Sims can make it work

KAILUA-KONA, HI – Neil Anthony Sims, a recognized leader in the growing movement to expand domestic aquaculture production into open ocean waters, has recently taken a bold new step toward developing what may be the technology of the future for sustainable fish culture operations in the US exclusive economic zone (EEZ). Sims, co-founder of Kona Blue Water Farms, which currently raises Kona Kampachi (Hawaiian yellowtail) at a fixed nearshore marine site off Keahole Point on the Big Island, is moving forward with an innovative project to test open ocean culture in unmoored, “drifting” cage systems.
