Mussel farms in Maine participating in unique pilot project to stimulate seaweed production

FRANKLIN, ME – Seaweed is a $6 billion industry worldwide.

That’s “b” as in “billion” – and a small portion of that is grown and harvested right here in Maine in what some are now beginning to see

Different types of seaweed, also called sea vegetables or marine macroalgae, are harvested across the globe for a variety of uses including fertilizer, food ingredients, and nutritional supplements.
