VINALHAVEN, ME \u2013 During the time I spent aboard Justin Osgood\u2019s Katrina Paige, he mentioned the phrase, \u201cThis is all new to me\u201d more than once.<\/p>\n
His 44.5\u2019 Mussel Ridge (we\u2019ll get to that length in a minute) is<\/i> new, of course \u2013 but Justin was referring to the process of having a new boat built.<\/p>\n
He has launched a new boat in the past: it took us a minute to cipher it out, but seeing\u2019s how his daughter Katrina was an infant when his Mitchell Cove 32 (also named for her) hit the water \u2026 and Ms. Katrina just turned 18 in January \u2026 we\u2019re pretty sure that the last time Justin went through this process was back in 1999.<\/p>\n
So, yes: he\u2019s been through this \u2013 but it\u2019s been awhile.<\/p>\n
Not a 42 \u2026 nor a 46<\/b><\/p>\n
If you check out the list of Mussel Ridge models that Cushing, Maine boat builder Hutchinson Composites offers, you\u2019ll see a 42-footer with a 15\u2019 beam; a 46 with the same width; and a brand-new 48\u2019x17\u20196\u201d Mussel Ridge.<\/p>\n
But you won\u2019t find a listing for a 44.5-footer.<\/p>\n
That\u2019s because Justin Osgood has the only one.<\/p>\n
