WALPOLE, ME \u2013 For years I\u2019ve referred to it as \u201cthe crow\u2019s nest\u201d \u2013 Bruce Farrin Sr.\u2019s office high over the back bay in Farrin\u2019s Boatshop in Walpole, ME.<\/p>\n

You have to climb some stairs to get to the crow\u2019s nest up there on the third floor, but it\u2019s worth it.\u00a0 For one thing, there\u2019s a lot of history on the walls; a virtual timeline of Bruce\u2019s history in boat building since he went off on his own in 1971.<\/p>\n

Today\u2019s visit is notable for the fact that I have all three Farrins \u2013 Bruce Sr. (who turned 73 this year), and his two sons Brian Jr. (who is 50), and Brian (who will be 49 in January) \u2013 sitting down.<\/p>\n

At the same time.<\/p>\n

Let me tell you: this doesn\u2019t happen.<\/p>\n

These guys don\u2019t sit a whole lot when you\u2019re around them at the shop.\u00a0 You can carry on a conversation as long as you\u2019re willing to keep moving along with them and\/or wait out the roar of a saw or grinder.<\/p>\n

And that\u2019s one at a time.\u00a0 All three at once?\u00a0 Unheard of.\u00a0 (I\u2019m imagining maybe they do it on family holidays, but then again \u2026)<\/p>\n

But Bruce and his two sons are all sitting with me for a few minutes up in the crow\u2019s nest…<\/p>\n
