appointed Science and Research Director Dr. Jon Hare, has an intricate understanding of the center\u2019s mission, facilities, programs and partners extending from Cape Hatteras to the Gulf of Maine.<\/p>\n

Serving first at the NEFSC Beaufort Laboratory in North Carolina as a fisheries biologist and research associate, and more recently as the director, supervisory research oceanographer, and oceanography branch chief at NEFSC\u2019s Narragansett Laboratory in Rhode Island, much of Hare\u2019s research has been on larval transport and recruitment of the region\u2019s fisheries.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe general message is that we need to augment our single-species focus because we need to bring these other factors into the assessment and management: habitat, socioeconomic concerns, and species interaction,\u201d Hare said.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have plenty of evidence there are other factors that affect the fisheries.\u201d<\/p>\n
