After a site visit to watch the fourth of five turbine towers going up in the array located about three miles southeast of Block Island, Marchetti returned to port and issued another notice to fishermen \u2013 a lift boat\u2019s departure time and transit route from Port of Providence to the site.<\/p>\n

On any given day, notices are issued for the 130\u2019 to 180\u2019-long lift boats carrying wind tower components to the site from the Port of Providence \u2013 as well as for utility, crew transfer, installation, and support vessels.<\/p>\n

The lift boats Paul and Caitlyn are jacked in place on legs up to 235\u2019 to transfer the components to the Brave Tern, a 433\u2019-long jack-up installation vessel.<\/p>\n

The Brave Tern, brought over from France, has cranes capable of lifting up to 800 tons, and stands up to 480\u2019 above sea level during construction.<\/p>\n

It mounted the tower components onto the foundations that were placed last summer.\u00a0 Each completed tower is 250\u2019 tall, weighing a total of 450 tons.<\/p>\n
