FAIRHAVEN, MA \u2013 It\u2019s a few minutes before 8 am and things are quiet on Union Wharf in Fairhaven, Massachusetts.\u00a0 Oh, there are sounds in the air \u2013 someone grinding a weld; a maul pounding on something substantial; a forklift being jockeyed around; a big diesel rumbling as a scalloper backs down and the crew scrambles to get the dock lines on \u2013 but those are ambient sounds, common and expected.<\/p>\n

That relative peace is broken when I walk into the office of Athearn Marine Agency.\u00a0 There\u2019s nothing loud or frantic going on \u2026 but things are happening.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s a small crew.\u00a0 This morning office manager Anna Cardoza is fielding phone calls, while Bill Daniels, Nelson Long, John Moran, and Bill Rocha are busy with deals: a big steel dragger with a federal permit; a small Novi with a gang of lobster gear and an inshore permit; a fast tuna chaser.\u00a0 Some classics are being talked about: a 36\u2019 Stanley, a 37\u2019 REPCO, a 42\u2019 Bruno, and a 65\u2019 DMR.<\/p>\n

Plus, Trevor Decker is down from the Tri-Nav offices in Canada \u2013 Tri-Nav has owned Athearn since 2004 \u2013 and is wrapping up a few things before flying back to St. John\u2019s, Newfoundland.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s a busy scene, but it\u2019s a well-oiled hum: just another morning at Athearn Marine Agency.<\/p>\n
