Welcome to another CFN Shakedown Cruise.<\/i><\/p>\n

MILBRIDGE, ME \u2013 Since working out a deal with fellow builder Jim Beal to lease his molds in 2014, brothers Joe and Josh Sargent of Sargent\u2019s Custom Boats in Milbridge, ME have had plenty to do.<\/p>\n
They\u2019ve laid up hulls and tops to send to other finish jobs \u2013 both the 33\u2019x12\u2019 Crowley Beal and the 38\u2019x14\u20194\u201d South Shore; they\u2019ve stretched a South Shore 38 to 44\u2019 (see the August 2015 Shakedown Cruise) to send to another shop; they\u2019ve even finished off another builder\u2019s hull (see the Dixon 45 Shakedown Cruise in the March 2016 CFN<\/i>); but they hadn\u2019t finished a South Shore 38 in their own shop.<\/p>\n
Until now.<\/p>\n
Black Gold marks the first 38-footer Sargent\u2019s Custom Boats has taken from the resin barrels to sea trials; and, according to Black Gold owner Shawn Howard, \u201cThey did a great job.<\/p>\n
\u201cI liked the idea of working with someone who had control over the whole build \u2013 start to finish,\u201d says Howard.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis project started with a tuna boat interior I drew up on graph paper three years ago \u2013 before I even knew for sure what I was going to get for a hull.<\/p>\n
I ended up at Joe\u2019s shop and he felt the South Shore could handle the kind of accommodations I wanted and still perform well.\u00a0 And he was right.<\/p>\n
