<\/a>The move immediately had its supporters.<\/p>\n\u201cAs evidenced by me signing a contract for space and leaving a deposit for the 2017 show, exhibiting at CME will again be part of our marketing plan in 2017,\u201d said Randy O\u2019Neill, MOPS Insurance, an exhibitor at this year\u2019s show.<\/p>\n
Green said this year\u2019s CME drew about 1,000 attendees \u2013 up from past years.<\/p>\n
Nearly everyone had high marks for the opening night reception, hosted by R.A. Mitchell Co., which was a fundraiser for the newly opened New Bedford Fishery Heritage Center.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe event not only raised $4,300 to support our initial exhibit, but it was a great way for us to introduce the Fishing Heritage Center to the industry.\u00a0 We look forward to hosting many more fishing industry events in the months to come,\u201d said Laura Orleans, the center\u2019s executive director.<\/p>\n
While the reception was a great way to relax and network a bit, the primary aim of CME was to connect suppliers with customers, and vice versa.<\/p>\n
On that score, there was also success.<\/p>\n
\u201cI was interested in purchasing a trawl monitoring system for my fishing vessel and was able to talk to all the reps from various manufacturers,\u201d said John Berglin, owner\/operator of the fishing vessel Mary Elizabeth.<\/p>\n
\u201cI loved seeing the latest products from the vendors, and enjoyed looking at and hearing about the OXE diesel outboard.\u00a0 Nobody was pushy and no Ginsu knife vendors,\u201d said attendee Peter Spang of Turnstone Marine Survey LLC.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe got a kick out of the Ginsu knife quote because we did have a few exhibitors like that try to get in,\u201d said CME\u2019s Green.<\/p>\n
\u201cAlthough it was difficult to say no to the additional booth sales, we wanted to focus on keeping the show specific and pertinent to the commercial marine industry.\u201d<\/p>\n
Exhibitors seemed to appreciate that commitment.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe very much enjoyed the show and made some good contacts,\u201d said exhibitor Kenneth J. Humanic, president <\/i>of <\/i>E&K Group, a winch manufacturer and supplier from Pennsylvania.<\/p>\n
This year\u2019s show was barely over when work began for next year\u2019s event.<\/p>\n
\u201cExhibitors are already signing up to attend next year\u2019s show and plans are underway to include more active demonstrations, more workshops, and social gatherings,\u201d Green said.<\/p>\n
