The following is this year\u2019s \u201cUpdate 2015 to the American Lobster Settlement Index,\u201d prepared and presented here by Rick Wahle and his colleagues at the University of Maine\u2019s Darling Center. WALPOLE, ME \u2013 The question on everyone\u2019s mind in the lobster industry is: How long will this boom last?<\/p>\n

As 2015\u2019s lobster landings are still being tallied, it\u2019s shaping up to be another all-time record for the US and Canada. That is, in dollar value.<\/p>\n

But for Maine, the state dominating US landings, volume has fallen off the 2013 peak for the second year running.<\/p>\n

Indeed, while Maine\u2019s landings shot up by 23% in value in 2014, volume was down 3%.<\/p>\n

In 2015, value surged again by another 8%, masking a 2.4% decline in volume from 2014.<\/p>\n

This ALSI<\/i> Update<\/i> adds the 2015 settlement numbers to our accumulating time series…<\/p>\n
