NEW BEDFORD, MA \u2013 Monomoy \u2013 a 100\u2019 Florida-built steel scalloper \u2013 is the latest vessel to join the big Eastern\/Nordic Fisheries\/O\u2019Hara fleet of scallopers based here.<\/p>\n

Built on a standardized John W. Gilbert Associates design that has served the companies well, Monomoy arrived in New Bedford in February, after an October 2015 launch, and January departure from builder Duckworth Steel Boats, of Tarpon Springs, FL.<\/p>\n

Dock workers here have been preparing the big scalloper for her maiden voyage since that time.<\/p>\n

At 101’x28’x14’6″ \u2013 an additional 6′ longer than their previously biggest boat \u2013 Monomoy is now the largest scalloper among her sisters at North Terminal.<\/p>\n

Monomoy\u2019s double chine hull was constructed with 3\/8″ steel.\u00a0 The sides \u2013 from under the shucking houses back to the transom \u2013 are plated with 5\/8″ steel, and the main deck\/work areas are built with 1″ plating.<\/p>\n

Monomoy is equipped with a bulbous bow.<\/p>\n

Her fish hold is wet for now, though the Enoksens are hopeful freezing at sea will be a future option.<\/p>\n

With that plan in mind, the Enoksens had space built into the fish hold\/lazarette area that\u2019s empty for now, but later can be utilized to hold refrigeration equipment if\/when the boat is converted.<\/p>\n

Monomoy is powered by Caterpillar 3512 main engine from Milton Cat delivering…<\/p>\n
