Welcome to another CFN Shakedown Cruise.<\/i><\/p>\n

NEW HARBOR, ME \u2013 Pemaquid, ME lobsterman Jamien Hallowell may only be 23, but he\u2019s an old soul.<\/p>\n
His decision to go with a new 35\u2019 lobster boat when many of his peers are having ones built that are 10 feet longer (or more) is more like that of veterans from years ago: keep things manageable and affordable, so you can weather the slack times as well as make money when the fishing\u2019s good.<\/p>\n
Jamien paid his dues the past four years fishing a 30\u2019 REPCO \u2013 a classic starter boat for many lobstermen \u2013 named for his great-grandmother.\u00a0 The Ella V name now adorns the bow of his new Mitchell Cove.<\/p>\n
\u201cI was only six when she died,\u201d he says, \u201cbut I remember her \u2026 she was pretty special to me.\u00a0 She grew up on the water; I think she\u2019d get a kick out of my boat being named for her.\u201d<\/p>\n
But the clincher was when Jamien pointed towards the stern of the Ella V and told me she\u2019d eventually be fitted with a jigger sail (a riding sail where I grew up).<\/p>\n
It\u2019s been years since I\u2019d been aboard a brand-new boat with a riding…<\/p>\n
