MARBLEHEAD, MA \u2013 Our cover story in the January 2016 CFN<\/i> was veteran fisherman Tommy Porter, sharing tales of growing up in Marblehead, MA; the early days of offshore lobstering on Georges Bank with his brother Manny; his years fishing the Atlantic from one end to the other with the late Bob Brown \u2013 the good and the bad, with no punches pulled.<\/p>\n

Tommy left home for the first time when he was 14: his mother sent him to the store for a can of tuna fish; he returned a few weeks later (having been to California and back) and handed her a can of tuna fish.<\/p>\n

Tommy\u2019s stories will take you from the Grand Banks down to South America; sometimes they\u2019re funny; sometimes they\u2019re grim.<\/p>\n

But that\u2019s life \u2013 and Tommy Porter\u2019s lived a lot of life in his 66 years.<\/p>\n

When we last sat down with Tommy, he was lobstering out of Gloucester with his 38′ Susan & Kimberly, splitting his weeks up between \u201cthe old homestead\u201d in Marblehead and a home that he and his wife Susan bought up in Maine.<\/p>\n

Since then, Tommy\u2019s shortened his commute: he\u2019s currently lobstering with Andrew Gove out of Stonington, ME.\u00a0 Andrew, whom you may know from the Maine lobster boat race circuit as the skipper of Uncle\u2019s UFO, turns 86 this year.<\/p>\n

\u201cHey \u2013 you\u2019re back to being the youngest guy on the boat,\u201d says Tommy\u2019s grandson Benjamin.<\/p>\n

\u201cDon\u2019t be a wiseass,\u201d says Tommy.<\/p>\n

We\u2019ve had a lot of response from readers since that feature ran \u2013 and most folks have asked, \u201cWhen are you going to sit down with Tommy again?\u201d<\/p>\n

So we did.<\/p>\n
