WOODS HOLE, MA \u2013 NOAA Corps LTJG Douglas Pawlishen, the officer-in-charge of the 72\u2019 fisheries research stern trawler Gloria Michelle, says he had no problem finding help renovating this venerable mainstay of the Northeast Fisheries Science Center\u2019s fleet.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was a real team effort,\u201d said Pawlishen,\u00a0 who took command in December 2014.<\/p>\n

\u201cI did get help from everyone at the science center.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s pretty special to us,\u201d said science center communication specialist Shelley Dawicki.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s an integral part of the science center.\u00a0 We see the boat at the dock every day when it\u2019s not underway for research.\u201d<\/p>\n

Dawicki noted that the current chief of the center\u2019s operations branch, John Moakley, is the original captain of the vessel who took the lead in acquiring it some 36 years ago…<\/p>\n
