DEER ISLE, ME \u2013 When boat builders Joe and Josh Sargent of Sargent\u2019s Custom Boats in Milbridge, ME worked out a deal last fall with fellow builder Jim Beal to lease his molds, they were simply looking to keep themselves busy.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen you\u2019re a finish shop, you\u2019re at the mercy of other builders to get your hulls,\u201d says Joe.\u00a0 \u201cEverybody was getting so busy that it got to the point where we thought we needed to have our own molds.\u00a0 And that\u2019s when Jimmy mentioned that he was ready to be done with his.\u00a0 It was good timing.\u201d<\/p>\n

The basic lease arrangement set the Sargents up with two molds: the popular Jim Beal 33 (33\u2019x12\u2019) and the South Shore 38 \u2013 a beamy (14\u20194\u201d) Calvin Beal Jr. design from the mid-1990s with a solid track record…<\/p>\n
