ST. ANDREWS, NB \u2013 US and Canadian research teams on the Transboundary Resources Assessment Committee (TRAC) met here to discuss eastern Georges Bank cod, haddock, and Georges Bank yellowtail flounder stock status at a July 7-9 meeting.<\/p>\n

While surveys in both countries show good recruitment in haddock, cod, and yellowtail flounder, stocks still are not showing signs of rebounding.<\/p>\n

The TRAC formed in 1998 to review stock assessments and projections necessary to inform management decisions on jointly held fishery resources across the US-Canadian boundary.<\/p>\n

The Transboundary Management Guidance Committee (TMGC) uses the TRAC input to set allocations of shared fisheries for the coming year.<\/p>\n

Allocations are based on an agreed upon formula that weighs resource distribution \u2013 where fish are found from trawl surveys\u00a0 \u2013 more heavily than resource utilization (catch history) from 1967 to 1994…<\/p>\n
