WASHINGTON, DC \u2013 Climate change is here and fishermen, scientists, and managers alike are seeing shifts in fisheries populations, distribution, and productivity along the East Coast.\u00a0<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n

That was the takeaway message from the March 19-21 East Coast Climate Change and Fisheries Governance Workshop sponsored by the Mid-Atlantic Fishery Management Council.<\/p>\n

The workshop brought together over 70 scientists, managers, and staff from the Mid-Atlantic, New England, and South Atlantic councils, the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission, and the National Marine Fisheries Service\u2019s (NMFS) Greater Atlantic Regional Fisheries Office.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe gathering of East Coast fisheries management leaders to discuss management challenges related to climate change was unprecedented,\u201d said Mid-Atlantic council Chairman Rick Robins.\u00a0 \u201cThe workshop laid an important foundation for the development of future adaptive management and governance approaches to position our management systems for resilience in the face of changing conditions.\u201d…<\/p>\n
