FAIRHAVEN, MA \u2013 Eastern rigs were once the mainstay of the New England offshore fleet.\u00a0 But these classics also are what Point Pleasant, NJ-based brothers Arthur and Ken Ochse learned to fish on.<\/p>\n

Getting started as youngsters, between them now the two have almost 100 years of fishing experience.\u00a0 So when it came time to build a new steel boat a few years back, there was no doubt what they\u2019d be shopping for.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe built an eastern rig because that\u2019s all we were ever on,\u201d Arthur laughed.\u00a0 \u201cThere are advantages.\u00a0 You only need one pilothouse, and you can really see the people on deck.\u00a0 You know what\u2019s going on.\u00a0 People don\u2019t realize it, but if I\u2019m running this boat at the dock, I can see the whole boat.\u00a0 I tried to dock a shrimp boat for a guy one time and was in the front of the boat thinking, \u2018Where is everything here?\u2019\u201d…<\/p>\n
