Bluefin fishery picks up again; schools\u00a0<\/b>of big<\/i> giants raise new questions<\/b><\/h3>\n

HARWICH, MA \u2013 Following a several-week lull, the bluefin fishery was picking up in mid-July with schools of giants being reported off Maine, in Cape Cod Bay, off Chatham, and on Georges Bank.<\/p>\n

Stick boats had finally caught a break with the weather and were said to be on a roll.\u00a0 Rod-and-reelers were exasperated by the low hookup rate, but word that the fish were around was building anticipation that things were about to get exciting again.<\/p>\n

The timing appeared to be good, too.\u00a0 Dealers from Maine to Cape Cod said market conditions in Japan were improving as domestic supplies there had finally thinned out.<\/p>\n
