HARWICH, MA \u2013 Even before the June 1 start of the 2013 bluefin tuna season, fishermen, including a whole pack of newcomers, were raring to go, fired up by reports of fish sighted from Maine to Massachusetts.<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n

Sure enough, the season started off with a bang.\u00a0 The fish were close to shore, just a few miles off Chatham, in Cape Cod Bay, and on the southwest corner of Stellwagen.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s a parking lot full of trailer-able boats out there,\u201d said spotter pilot and bluefin fisherman Ralph Pratt on June 9.\u00a0 \u201cThere\u2019s a lot of new effort.\u00a0 A lot of the fish are over 73″.\u00a0 We\u2019re seeing a lot of keeper fish.\u201d<\/p>\n

Dealers handled scores of them in the first two weeks of the season.\u00a0 While no one was exactly complaining about the surge in business, they did have some real concerns about how the early days were playing out.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe quality is terrible.\u00a0 They\u2019re lean, muscle-bound,\u201d remarked Bob Kliss of Lynn, MA-based North Atlantic Traders Inc.\u00a0 \u201cThese fish have been…<\/p>\n
