SOUTH BRISTOL, ME \u2013 When Nathan Jones\u2019 new 47\u2019 Sailor\u2019s Way slid down over the ways and into Poorhouse Cove on Nov. 18, history was made: John\u2019s Bay Boat Co. of South Bristol has had a number of repeat customers over the years, but Nathan is now the first three-time John\u2019s Bay Boat owner.<\/p>\n
For dedicated fans of wooden boat builder Peter Kass and his crew, however, room remains in the record books for someone else.\u00a0 Nathan (who fishes out of Stonington) is the first three-time owner<\/i>, but technically, he\u2019s had two built for himself and purchased the one in between from someone else.\u00a0 In theory, one of the current two-timers could conceivably have a third one built, right?<\/p>\n
Don\u2019t laugh: you\u2019d be hard pressed to find a group of skippers any more passionate about their boats.\u00a0 John\u2019s Bay Boat owners turn out en masse for summer lobster boat races, where some of the locations along the race circuit in Maine feature a special class race just for John\u2019s Bay vessels.<\/p>\n
And it\u2019s become tradition at a John\u2019s Bay launching to have the alumni on hand line up for an owners\u2019…<\/p>\n
