GLOUCESTER, MA \u2013 At its Dec. 5-7 meeting, the New England Fishery Management Council received an update on the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) projects in the Northeast region.<\/p>\n

BOEM marine biologist Brian Hooker walked the council through the status of: 14 offshore wind farms that are in various stages of progress, numerous associated environmental studies, and a proposed subsea electrical cable from Canada to Plymouth, MA.<\/p>\n

Hooker noted that BOEM is preparing a draft proposed program (DPP) for oil and gas lease sales in 2019 and still has five permits for Atlantic geophysical and geological seismic surveys pending.<\/p>\n

While the council was familiar with most of the offshore windfarms, Atlantic Link \u2013 the subsea cable proposed by the Halifax, NS-based company Emera \u2013 was a new ocean energy project.<\/p>\n

Emera, an energy and service company, negotiated the installation of cable between New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, and Labrador land wind farms and hydroelectric plants.<\/p>\n

Emera proposes installing a high voltage direct current (HVDC) cable carrying 1,000 MW from Coleson Cove, NB to the Plymouth Station that now serves Pilgrim Nuclear Plant\u2019s export load to Boston.\u00a0 Pilgrim is slated to shut down in 2019.<\/p>\n

In Dec., Emera sought a presidential permit for its international project….<\/p>\n
