<\/b>NEW BEDFORD, MA \u2013 Lars Vinjerud\u2019s new scalloper Kodiak has joined the Oceans Fleet Fisheries stable here.<\/p>\n

And once word gets around, there\u2019s likely to be more than a bit of interest in this new arrival.\u00a0 That\u2019s because Kodiak isn\u2019t just another new scallop dragger \u2013 she\u2019s Vinjerud\u2019s first scalloper built specifically to freeze scallops offshore.<\/p>\n

Like all of Vinjerud\u2019s newbuilds, Kodiak was built at Williams Fabrication Inc. in Bayou La Batre, AL.<\/p>\n

Kodiak measures 103\u2019x27\u2019x14\u2019 and is powered by a Mitsubishi S6R2 diesel delivering 803 hp @ 1400 rpm through a ZF 5:1 reduction gear.\u00a0 Her main engine was supplied by Laborge Products Inc. of Covington, LA.<\/p>\n

R.A. Mitchell Co. Inc. of Fairhaven supplied three John Deere engines for Kodiak: a 6068 AFM85 6.8 liter haulback engine delivering 330 hp @ 2600 rpm; and two 99 kW (unusally large) 4045 AFM85-driven gensets which will be used to power Kodiak\u2019s freezing equipment.<\/p>\n

Glenn Manchester of Northeast Marine Services, Westport, MA designed the hydraulics system and worked in concert with the shipyard on installation.<\/p>\n
