STONINGTON, ME \u2013 At a time when many of the builders and finishers on the Maine coast are working on some of the biggest hulls they\u2019ve ever tackled, the latest project from Buxton Boats in Stonington, Maine is like a sweet little blast from the past (with some modern twists).<\/p>\n
The wooden 31\u20196\u201dx11\u2019 Emma G was designed and built by Peter Buxton for Kathy Lymburner of Brooksville, ME.\u00a0 Kathy, who\u2019s been working on the water since she was a kid \u2013 and lobstering on her own for about 15 years now \u2013 was looking to upgrade from the 28\u2019 fiberglass boat she\u2019d been fishing.<\/p>\n
Kathy wanted a little more deck room, but she didn\u2019t want to get into a boat that would be too much to handle fishing up in the bay, around the shores and other lobster gear.\u00a0 \u201cI would never put a cage or rope cutters on,\u201d she says.\u00a0 \u201cYou just have to pay attention and know your boat.\u201d<\/p>\n
At 5\u20191\u201d, visibility was also a concern for Kathy \u2013 she wanted a hull with enough bow to handle weather, but not so much flare that she\u2019d lose sight of buoys as she approached them.<\/p>\n
Speed?\u00a0 Sure \u2013 but Kathy also wanted her new hull and engine combo to be efficient, as well…<\/p>\n
