FAIRHAVEN, MA \u2013 When Madelyn sailed off into the fog on her maiden voyage in late April, Fairhaven Shipyard Companies Inc. yard workers must have smiled.<\/p>\n

Madelyn is the fourth commercial fishing vessel newbuild the yard has produced, and if repeat business is any indicator, New Jersey-based boat owner Kirk Larson would appear to be a satisfied customer.<\/p>\n

Happy enough that Madelyn is now the second boat he\u2019s had built at the perpetually busy South Coast yard.<\/p>\n

His 78\u2019 scalloper C.B. Keane was featured in these pages in March, 2015.<\/p>\n

Contacted in mid-May, Larson said, \u201cMadelyn hasn\u2019t gone fishing yet, my son Kirk Jr. will run her.\u00a0 We expect to have the boat fishing within two weeks.\u201d<\/p>\n

Fairhaven Shipyard, by the way, has been focusing more and more on newbuilds in addition to maintaining its non-stop repair work schedule serving the New Bedford fleet and others.\u00a0 More on that later.<\/p>\n

Madelyn was designed by Farrell and Norton Navel Architects, who
\nhave offices in Fairhaven and in Newcastle, ME.<\/p>\n

She measures 80\u2019x26\u2019x10\u2019, and was built with 5\/16\u201d steel.\u00a0 Work areas are heavier \u2013 beefed up with 5\/8\u201d plating.\u00a0 The new scalloper is a single-chine hull equipped with rolling chocks.<\/p>\n

Madelyn\u2019s heart is a Kirk Larson-supplied Mitsubishi main diesel\u00a0…<\/p>\n
