Bullard to lead NMFS Northeast Region

GLOUCESTER, MA – John Bullard is the new National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) Northeast Regional Administrator. NMFS Director Sam Rauch announced the appointment on July 2 after many months of speculation over who would be named to fill the post following the retirement late last year of longtime administrator Pat Kurkul.
Bullard is a familiar face in fisheries circles in this region. A native of New Bedford, he served as the city’s mayor from 1986 to 1992, during which time he encouraged the University of Massachusetts to create the Center for Marine Science and Technology, which is now known as the School for Marine Science and Technology, or SMAST
